quiet night with the storytellers

Posted in Uncategorized on April 10, 2011 by ootbco

Our April 8 gathering was quiet but soooo much fun. A couple of our elder musical statesmen took to swapping stories about the hijinx of yesteryear, and everyone was pretty much in stitches. It was a casual gathering, and probably a dozen songs total were sung. Here’s a new one by Michelle Patterson that she wrote for her husband, Barry. Darren Thornberry accompanies.

As soon as we know the next OOTB date, we’ll let you know!

March open mic simply stellar

Posted in Uncategorized on March 20, 2011 by ootbco

Wow. Our March open mic night took things to a new place. The variety of performances, the level of talent, the honesty … it was just awesome. Casa Thornberry was packed with people (which is how we like it), some coming from as far as Colorado Springs and Denver. There’s something about this event that is really special. Hard to describe, but folks seem to feel … refreshed? It’s cool when performers in their teens and their 70s can share the space and learn something from each other.

The Bollywood Has-Been Orchestra

One thing’s for sure. Out of the Bedroom returns April 8 at 7 pm. Bring your friends! Casa Thornberry, 720 West Henrietta Avenue, Woodland Park CO 80863.

Wow, what a blast!

The Feb. 11 OOTB held at Casa Thornberry was the most fun we’ve had in ages. There’s something about being in a home that calls for intimacy, laughter, tears, honesty, humor, stories. From Timmy Vilgiate’s fierce poetry to newcomer Nathan Archer’s (pictured) Elvis Costello-inspired acoustic creations, the energy of our amazing local writers was felt strongly. Mark and Christi Bovee were selected from the awesome group of performers to do an opening slot at the MAMA gig on March 18.

We’re back March 4, 7 pm, again at Casa Thornberry

A small but enthusiastic, honest and interesting group of folks turned up for OOTB’s return in Woodland Park tonight. The Raven’s Nest is a stunningly great venue, and we had a ball passing the guitar around and hearing the stories behind the songs. Here’s a song that Reilly, Rebecca and Darren Thornberry performed. It was the ladies’ debut at OOTB! Our next night is Dec 3 so get it on the calendar.

Barn Jam Was a Stormer

Posted in Uncategorized on July 20, 2010 by ootbco

Thanks to everyone who turned up for the OOTB Barn Jam on July 17 and special thanks to Jon and Amy Dale for hosting! Very cool venue. We had cover songs, original tunes, first-time performances and awesome spoken word. Very chilled environment. We’ll definitely do it again! Watch this space for details on OOTB’s new night and venue, presented by MAMA.

OOTB Barn Jam: July 17th!!!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 8, 2010 by ootbco

Open to incoming high school freshmen and older. Starts at 7:30 p.m., so turn up a bit earlier to sign in if you plan to perform. Expect to play two or three songs. You may perform covers, crazy collaborations are encouraged and dancing is … your choice. We’ll have a house guitar as usual. Very important: BYO chair and bottle. Yes, this event will actually take place in a barn in Woodland Park, but a very COOL barn at the home of OOTB regular Amy Dale. At the middle school playing fields, turn right at the sign that says “Matchett Family.” This is directly across the street from Valleyview Drive. Follow that driveway straight to the end and you’re there! Call Darren on 719.502.0581 if you can’t find the place. Click here for directions.

intimate end to a great chapter

OOTB’s last night at the WPAA building was a quiet but fun affair. Only a handful of performers turned up to play, and so we just passed the guitar around twice and everybody shared what their song was about and went for it. Watch this space for info about the OOTB BARN JAM (JULY 16) and our new developments with MAMA. Happy summer, folks!

last OOTB at Arts Alliance June 4

Posted in Uncategorized on June 3, 2010 by ootbco

Out of the Bedroom has some pretty awesome plans to join with MAMA (Mountain Acoustic Music Association) at a different venue this summer; therefore, the June 4 event will be the last at the Woodland Park Arts Alliance building. I would like to thank Ralph Holloway for making a home for OOTB since last October. We had a strong first few months in Woodland Park, and I am grateful to WPAA for its support. Please check out WPAA to see how you can get involved. See you tomorrow night! Sign up starts at 7 pm.
